Welcome to the EBI Pre-School Section
All children are fully integrated in the French Massillon class « Maternelle ».
The « Maternelle » is an essential stage in the life of a child and contributes to ensuring their academic success.
Its main mission is to help children enjoy going to school, and to affirm and develop their personalities. It is a place where children learn and live together. They learn by playing, thinking and solving problems, practicing, and memorizing. They develop their oral language and begin to discover different forms of writing, numbers and other areas of learning.
The nursery school follows the French National Educational curriculum.
The EBI offers native English language classes for native or bilingual pupils and ‘French for foreigners’ (FLE) classes for international pupils.
Specific support for our pupils
ENGLISH CLASSES
“TELL ME AND I FORGET.
TEACH ME AND I REMEMBER.
INVOLVE ME AND I LEARN.”
“Our focus is to provide a stimulating early learning experience which promotes each child’s social, physical and cognitive development.
Our caring and professional teaching staff introduce the children to the joys of education and prepare them for Primary school
They learn the limits of behaviour regarding safety and the respect of their peers, to be tolerant, creative and independent. Their nursery school experience will help your children build feelings of self-confidence to become bright, happy children on the first steps of being life-long learners.”
Charlotte DUPONT, EBI pre-school and primary coordinator.
The native English-speaking EBI staff teaches children who are either:
- native English speakers
- or bilingual in English
in the two last nursery school classes: Moyenne Section and Grande Section.
French system | American system | British system | Age |
---|---|---|---|

Moyenne section (MS) | K-4 | Reception | 4 |
Grande section (GS) | K-5 | Year 1 | 5 |
In France, your child’s school year is determined by the calendar year of birth (1st January – 31st December).
K4 CLASS
English speaking or bilingual pupils in the K4 native language class have
4 hours of English per week.
K5 class
English speaking or bilingual pupils in the K5 native language class have
5 hours of English per week.
FRENCH FOR FOREIGNERS CLASS (FLE)
Non French-speaking pupils are welcomed in the FLE class (French as a Foreign Language) in Grande Section. Every day, they have 45 minutes of French, in a small group with a specialized FLE teacher.
French language is taught through games, nursery rhymes, and reading story books.
Throughout the school year, the children are introduced to French cultural events and traditions (Galette des rois, Chandeleur, Mardi Gras, Christmas traditions) or French customs (French breakfast for example).
The FLE teacher has an important role in welcoming, and liaising with the pupils’ parents. They work closely with the French teachers to prepare the children for their CP class.
